  • "Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. "Up, up the long delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, wher never lark, or even eagle, flew; and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God." ~ John Gillespie Magee Jr.

    Why Study at Andrews?

    The Andrews Advantage

With its own airfield within walking distance from campus, Andrews University offers a competitive aviation program that will ensure your competence at graduation. The aviation department operates a fleet of single-engine Piper Archers, a Piper Arrow and a Piper Seminole for flight training courses. All aircraft are professionally maintained by the departments' FAA-certified mechanics. Our flight simulation building with flight training devices has drawn attention from the major aviation magazines as well as universities around the country. As well as a Mitsubishi MU2 that we use for ground operations and learning the complexity of a turbo prop start cycle. The aviation department also offers employment opportunities to advanced students. Certified Flight Instructors and licensed Maintenance students are encouraged to work to obtain valuable experience and expertise. Students are encouraged to become flight instructors within the first two years of their university career and start student teaching the fall of their Junior year.

Andrews University offers mission training by combining flight training from experienced mission pilots with airframe and powerplant certificates. Andrews also offers many other world mission and cultural courses on a highly multicultural campus, from studying abroad to becoming a student missionary for a year.

Flight students gain valuable corporate experience in crew resource management, while gaining multi-engine flight time. The Aviation Department offers transitional training for turboprop and light jets in our flight training devices as well as glass cockpit training with-in our Piper fleet.

Employment as an Andrews flight instructor may be offered to our qualified students. Since these positions are highly competitive, it is common knowledge that your interview starts the moment you begin your Andrews career as an aviation freshman. Our Alumni after seeking knowledge, affirming their faith and graduation, go out into the world and change it for the better.

Gregory Chase class of 2013 told us, "The opportunity to instruct at Andrews also helped me to excel at my current job. Coworkers of mine coming out of bigger 141 schools had a harder time adjusting to the real world environment than I did coming from Andrews."  Gregory is currently the Part 141 Assistant Chief Flight Instructor at Falcon Aviation Academy in Newnan, GA

"Being an aviation student at Andrews University was one of the biggest blessings of my life. At Andrews I learned the true definition of perseverance, courage, commitment, loyalty, and faith. Today, I can say that Andrews molded me into being a genuine Christian who seeks God daily and who is helping change the world one day at a time."  Kathy Adrada graduated in 2012 and is currently a Flight Instructor for Blue Sky Flight, llc in her home state of Connecticut.
