    A Private Pilot License (PPL) will allow you to fly almost anywher, with passengers, in a Canadian-registered aircraft. It is also the foundation upon which ratings can be added.

    Why Private Pilot License ?

    If you want to fly, the Private Pilot License is the best place to start. Whether you want to take friends and family up for some fun or you’re starting a career as a pilot, you’ll usually begin by getting your PPL.

    The Private License program includes a comprehensive and engaging Ground School that parallels your dual flight instruction and solo practice.  Endorsements such as the Night Rating, VFR-Over The Top Rating, Mountain Checkride, and Instrument Rating can be added to the Private Pilot License to open up exciting opportunities.

    Transport Canada Minimum Requirements

    based on training on Cessna 172 at $162/hr solo and $212/hr dual:

    17 years old

    Category 1 or 3 Medical Certificate

    40 hours of Private Ground School instruction @ $650.00

    60% in each area of the PPAER written examination @ $150.00

    45 hours of private flight training including

    17 hours dual instruction flight time @ $3,604.00 including

    3 hours cross-country

    5 hours instrument flight time, up to 3 hours on a simulator

    12 hours solo flight time @ $1,944.00 including:

    5 hours cross-country, including a 150 nautical mile cross-country flight

    20 hours briefing with instructor @ $1,000.00

    Complete Aviation Language Proficiency Test @ $75.00

    Complete a flight test to the standard described in the Flight Test Guide @ $375.00

    Total Estimated Cost (on C172 and based on the minimum requirement)*:  $7,798.00

    * Price quoted is based on Transport Canada minimum requirements. Most students will require more than minimum required hours to complete their flight training.  Therefore, estimated costs will vary accordingly and students should allow for approximately 25% additional funding for the completion of their training.  All prices are in CAD and are subject to change without prior notice.  All prices shown are local students rates.
