Our core activity is training for the EASA Private Pilot’s Licence, which will be issued by the UK Civil Aviation Authority and is valid throughout Europe and easily convertible elsewher in the world. In addition, we offer training for night flying, renewals and revalidations of licences, and our instructors can accompany you on flights as safety pilots.
To obtain a PPL, students must fulfill several criteria: •Obtain a Class 2 Medical Certificate
•Ground School
•Practical Flight Training
In addition to the PPL course, we offer instruction in night flying, periodical revalidation of licences, and the services of our instructors as safety pilots that can accompany licences pilots on flights across France. Most importantly, we offer an intensive course for the ground-school examinations.
Cosmo Flight School builds on the pioneering work of Sue Virr, an English flight instructor and aviatrix who was the first and only British instructor licenced to conduct training in France, before sadly losing a battle with cancer in the autumn of 2011. Having already blazed trails in other fields, Sue fell in love with aviation and became a flight instructor in the late 1990s. She relocated to Limoges because the weather allowed her to fly every day, and put her heart and soul into her flight school, aptly named Nearly Heaven.
Sue’s commitment to her students’ success was intense and unwavering. She achieved a perfect 100% first-time pass rate for all the students she trained, and aimed to teach them to be pilots, not just to get them a licence.
We are humbled by her legacy and aim to follow in her footsteps by bringing the same commitment to the success of our students.We are proud to say that we were trained in Limoges by Sue at Nearly Heaven and learned first-hand how to fly and how to enjoy flying from her enthusiasm, her passion, her skills and knowledge. 1. Why should I come to France to learn to fly?
To begin with, the prices are very competitive, and often lower than in the UK or northern Europe. More importantly, perhaps, the weather is suitable for flying on more days than not. As a consequence, the skies are less crowded. Furthermore, there are no landing fees in Limoges for our aircraft, meaning you will be able to perfect your landings and take-off without a worry, wheras in other countries even touch-and-goes are charged; at other airfields nearby, the landing fees are very reasonable. Over the course of training for the PPL, the free landings amount to well over the cost of a couple of lessons.Most importantly, however, you will be able to train intensively, over a sustained period of time, without interruptions that cause you to have to catch up every time you resume training. And you will be able to combine your training with visiting beautiful corners of France.
2. Do I need to speak French in order to learn to fly in France?
No. All the instruction is in English, so are the examinations and the practical tests.
3. What about radio calls?
The law mandates that air traffic controllers be fluent in English. It's always Alpha, Bravo, Charlie. It is never, ever Abricot, Baguette, Croissant.
