The NPPL offers the two great attractions of being relatively easy to obtain, the minimum training requirement is just 32 hours, and inexpensive to maintain. The medical requirements of the licence are based on the DVLA driver standards, and only involve a visit to your local GP.
The NPPL at a glance:
Covers single engine aircraft with max takeoff weight not exceeding 2000kg. This includes almost all single engine aircraft.
Minimum age for licence issue 17 years. Minimum age for first solo 16 years
Minimum visibility condition 5km.
Allows flight with up to three passengers in aircraft
Allows licence holder to undertake additional training for tail wheel aircraft and aircraft with supercharged engines, variable pitch propellers, retractable undercarriage, pressurised cabins, cruise exceeding 140kts
Maintained through a minimum of 6 hours flying in 12 months and 1 hour with flying instructor over 24 months.
Low cost General Practitioner medical certification, following DVLA driver standards.
JAR PPL’s lapsed due to medical reasons can be easily converted to UK PPL.
