You’re excited about taking to the air, and you’re ready to pursue your full commercial pilot certificate.

Your trajectory

EASA states that an approved CPL(A) Theoretical Knowledge course will include at least 250 hours of instruction.

If you have your IR, you’ll receive at least 25 hours of dual flight instruction, including 10 hours of instrument instruction of which up to 5 hours may be instrument ground time in a simulator.

With an IR(A), you’ll be credited in full for the dual instrument instruction time. A valid IR(H) will get you credit for up to 5 hours of dual instrument instruction time, in which case you’ll receive up to 5 hours of dual instrument instruction time in an aeroplane.

If you have a Course Completion Certificate for the Basic Instrument Flight Module, you’ll receive credit for up to 10 hours of the required instrument instruction time.

Applicants with a valid IR will receive at least 15 hours of dual visual flight instruction.

Applicants without a Night Rating(A) will receive at least 5 additional hours of night-time flight instruction, comprising 3 hours of dual instruction, including at least 1 hour of cross-country navigation and 5 solo take-offs and 5 solo full-stop landings.

In every case, at least 5 hours of the flight instruction will be carried out in an aeroplane certified for the carriage of a minimum of 4 people, with a variable pitch propeller and retractable landing gear.

Prerequisites

You must have passed the theory exams for the CPL(A) or ATPL(A) before applying for CPL(A) flight training. You must have logged at least 200 hours of flight time and fulfilled certain other demands before sitting the CPL(A) skill test.
