In all of aviation, the training needs of helicopter pilots are unique. No other aircraft is as fundamentally complex and unstable as rotorcraft, or as frequently asked to perform so dangerous a mission profile. Costs of operating and training in the actual aircraft are generally much higher than for fixed-wing aircraft of the same weight class. Even more so than in fixed-wing training, there is a wide range of maneuvers and emergencies that simply cannot be taught in the aircraft at all. There should be a significant role for simulation tools in helicopter training, yet there is a very limited selection for effective training alternatives. Why?

The inherent instability of rotorcraft demands an enhanced “feel” for flight control that is extremely complicated and difficult to simulate. In many helicopters, stability augmentation systems (SAS) provide enhanced stability but also affect the pilot’s feel of the aircraft. Autopilot systems in more complex rotorcraft types are correspondingly complex. These challenges plapxce great emphasis for simulation engineers on the interface between the pilot and flight control systems, and on autopilot integration.

F2Si offers a family of rotorcraft simulation devices that provide the necessary flight control “feel” characteristics and systems integration for any application.

Type-Specific rotorcraft simulation for any helicopter

Even more so than for fixed wing, the benefits provided by F2Si are uniquely suited to meeting the needs of helicopter simulation.

The MOTUS six-degree-of-freedom motion base provides all the acceleration cues so valuable for hover training and a wide range of rotorcraft maneuvers.
The LCD Mosaic Wall™ external visual display is especially configured for helicopter training, providing the vertical field of view (chin window) to support quick stops, autorotation, and hovering in ground effect.
F2Si has the expertise to provide the necessary trim and control “feel,” with or without Stability Augmentation Systems, and with the most sophisticated autopilot integration. MOTUS applies advancements in interface control technology to allow any level of systems replication, including aircraft-specific FADEC systems.
Laminar Research aerodynamic design software ensures that the simulator's performance characteristics match those of the helicopter, as effectively as they do for fixed-wing aircraft.

Whether for simple or complex helicopters, F2Si can uniquely provide a highly realistic and surprisingly affordable simulation solution.
