  • RADSIM Radar Simulation 3.0
Leidos's RADSIM is a high-fidelity radar simulation capability for flight simulators, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) simulators, radar scope interpretation (RSI) training, image analyst training, or mission planning/rehearsal systems.

    OVERVIEW
RADSIM provides the fidelity and flexibility of a phototexture-based digital radar landmass simulation (DRLMS) system. It uses Leidos-developed core radar simulation technology and can produce a very high-fidelity geo-specific or generic, simulated real-time synthetic aperture radar (SAR), Doppler beam sharpening (DBS), and real beam imagery to less than one-meter resolution.

    APPLICATIONS
RADSIM offers clear, high-fidelity imagery that closely mimics how radar images will appear to the pilot in the cockpit or to an operator/analyst at a simulated workstation. RADSIM can be tailored for either real-time flight simulators or mission-planning systems. The mission-planning version can be integrated into both mission planning and mission rehearsal systems. When integrated into the Leidos//MPS, RADSIM provides a complete radar environment package for the warfighter.

RADSIM uses a digital database created from overhead imagery; National Imagery and Mapping Agency's Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED) and Digital Feature Analysis Data (DFAD), and other sources using Leidos's PHOTOMAP database generation tool. A library of sample databases is included with RADSIM. As an example of the realism provided to aid flight simulator training, a radar simulation close-up of a target area includes the following:

Accurate real beam, DBS, and SAR imagery from a single, multi-resolution database

Portrayal of both cultural and terrain features
Accurate display of relocatable and moving targets with moving target indications
Supports very high-fidelity X-Patch® target models
Simulation of either predefined areas of interest ("patches") or wide area coverage
Leading-edge enhancement and far shore brightening
Cultural feature shadowing and terrain masking
    Background texture and noise
Antenna pattern, side lobe, and tilt effects
    Range attenuation and earth curvature
Receiver gain, sensitivity time control (STC), and fast time constant (FTC)
    Thunderstorm and chaff effects
    FEATURES
Interfaced to a host simulation, RADSIM provides accurate radar representations in the cockpit on either actual aircraft equipment or simulated displays. When installed on a user-supplied computer, RADSIM provides a stand-alone server, generic radar simulation capability that is suitable for classroom training and mission-planning applications.

RADSIM operates with Windows®, UNIX® operating systems, or multi-processors running LINUX® OS. It is compatible with laptops or workstations, and can be configured for a single user or network server.

In addition to Leidos RADSIM, Leidos offers a number of additional services intended to customize and increase the program's utility and applicability. These services may be obtained by a separately negotiated support contract with Leidos. The following are representative support services available from Leidos:

Custom modifications - Leidos will modify RADSIM to provide for the realistic simulation of specific radar types. Specific map sizes, display resolution, unique radar effects and modes, and aircraft-specific controls are examples of the types of tailoring efforts that Leidos can provide. RADSIM can be tailored for specific aircraft. See sample imagery for B-1, B-2, F-111C, F-16 and generic for image analyst training under the Media & Downloads tab.
Training system interface and integration - RADSIM provides for a stand-alone radar simulation capability. For implementation with a specific training device (for example, weapon system trainers, cockpit procedures trainers, etc.), Leidos will develop an appropriate system interface for RADSIM, either in its basic product form or as modified per customer-unique requirements. In addition, Leidos offers a highly skilled staff of real-time, simulation software engineers available to assist with systems integration.
Computational platform rehost - RADSIM is hosted today on Windows®, LINUX® and Macintosh®-based systems. Leidos's design for RADSIM permits the product to be rehosted on other computational platforms that may be required by the customer. Leidos will assess the performance requirements associated with the customer's desired computational platform, define a hardware configuration necessary to support the operational requirements, and rehost RADSIM to this new configuration.
    BENEFITS

Uses for the radar prediction capability include radar terrain masking displays, situation analysis, mission planning, mission rehearsal, radar display prediction, radar scope interpretation training and aircraft threat susceptibility.
