  • Description
  • Upon completion of your Private Pilot’s Certificate, you can continue onto the next level, an Instrument Rating. At Spitfire Aviation, we utilize the Jeppesen Instrument Flight training manual for your instrument training. With full-time instruction, this course can be completed in as little as 10 days; however, most people finish the Instrument Rating in three to six months.

This rating allows you to fly into the clouds and come into an airport using only the instruments, giving you the ability to fly places that you may not be able to go with just a Private Pilot Certificate.

We will fly to local surrounding airports such as Camarillo, Oxnard, Santa Maria, Santa Ynez, and Lompoc. Average lessons are three hours long.

If you want to fly on a schedule and not let weather get in the way, this is the rating for you.

Below are the FAA minimum training requirements to get your Instrument Rating:

    FAA Training Requirements

    •Private Pilot’s License

•40 Hours of simulated or actual Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) time. This is either actual or simulated flying in the clouds.

•50 Hours of Pilot In Command (PIC) Cross Country time

    •3rd Class Medical certificate

•Pass an FAA Flight test including a written, oral, and practical exam
