Scott Justesen, CFII, was brought to Alaska by the US Army at Fort Wainwright. He soon decided that the Alaskan Interior was the best place to be. He was introduced to aviation in Alaska when a friend took him up in a Cessna 182 and said, "here, try this!". He was hooked, and he earned his Private Pilot Certificate while working on his A&P Mechanic Certificate via an Associates Degree and UAF. That done, he enrolled in the Professional Piloting Bachelors Degree program at UAA wher he completed his advanced ratings and certifications. He also holds a Bachelors Degree in mathematics with a minor in physics, and has always enjoyed teaching. Lifelong learning and the sharing of knowledge are at the core of his values. Flight instruction provides him the perfect opportunity for a lifetime of aviation exploration while sharing the joy and science of flight
Bob Widman, CFII/MEI, began his flying career in 1975, came to Alaska in 1982, and has been flying in Alaska for over 30 years. He began his aviation career as a Flight Instructor at Midway Field in Chicago and then shortly afterward was able to enter an Aviation Mechanic training program. Upon adding the coveted A&P designation to his other aircraft titles, Bob moved to Alaska, wher he has been happily flying ever since. Over the years this versatile gentleman has accumulated 17,000+ hours flight time (5,000 in tailwheel aircraft), with more than 7,000 of that giving instruction. His primary job has been as a pilot for MARC, wher he flies both in-state and international flights, usually in a King Air, Navajo, or Cessna Caravan. When not flying or instructing, Bob can be found helping out in the hangar. There's a lot to be said for a pilot who knows his planes inside and out!
Melissa McInelly, CFI, grew up flying in Alaska. She received her Private Pilot Certificate while attending Washington State University. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Zoology, Melissa returned to Alaska to attend the University of Alaska's Airframe and Powerplant program and completed her Instrument Rating. After finishing her A&P certification, Melissa joined the Alaska Air National Guard, wher she earned her Commercial Pilot Certificate and flies C135 tankers. Her flying duties have taken her around the globe. Melissa trained for her CFI with Proflite of Alaska and is now part of the Instructor Team (between her tours of duty flying the "Big Iron"). In addition to instructing, she enjoys flying taildraggers and exploring Alaska by air.
