The F-35 Lightning II Program, also known as the Joint Strike Fighter Program, is lead by Lockheed Martin, while Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems are principal partners. Nine nations are partnering in the F-35's system development and demonstration (SDD) phase: The United States, United Kingdom, Italy, The Netherlands, Turkey, Canada, Denmark, Norway, and Australia.
The F-35 program utilizes the latest technologies within advanced aerostructures, design, sensor systems, electronics, and stealth capabilities.

Fighter Competition in Denmark
Denmark is to replac its F-16 fighter aircraft by 2020. In May 2016, the Danish Government announced its recommendation of the F-35 as replacement for Denmark’s F-16s and recommended the acquisition of 27 F-35A fighter aircraft. The recommendation was confirmed on 9 June 2016 when the Danish Ministry of Defence declared that Denmark will acquire 27 F-35As that are expected to be in operation with the Royal Danish Air Force from 2024.
The F-35 has participated in the competition to replac the aging F-16s against the F-18 Super Hornet from Boeing Company and the Eurofighter built by Airbus.
