Air China Monday announced the carrier and its affiliated airlines banned the transportation of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 on flights in light of recent incidents and concerns involving the smart phones.
The national flag carrier became the latest domestic airline to ban Galaxy Note 7 smart phones following Hainan Airlines, Spring Airlines and China Eastern Airlines.
Air China asked passengers neither to carry their Galaxy Note 7 in their checked luggage, nor use or charge them on the planes. Meanwhile, the airline has restricted its cargo business department from transporting the devices temporarily.
China's aviation watchdog last Wednesday singled out Galaxy Note 7 smart phone as a potential airborne fire hazard and demanded Chinese airlines to remind passengers to avoid using the devices during flights or stow them in checked baggage, according to a statement issued on the website of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Air Safety Agency (EASA), along with aviation regulators in India, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Singapore have banned using or charging the smart phone in the air.
