Hainan Airlines will launch five new international services from Shenzhen to New Zealand, Vietnam and Thailand over the next two months, the Haikou-based carrier announced at a press conference on Friday.

Starting November 28, Hainan Airlines will start a twice-weekly service to Danang, followed by thrice-weekly and twice-weekly services to Thailand's Chiang Mai and Phuket on December 15 and December 17, respectively. Thereafter, the airline will fly directly between Shenzhen and Nha Trang, Vietnam on December 18, followed by a thrice-weekly service to Auckland on December 29.

All of these points, except Phuket, are new destinations from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport.

As China Southern Airlines launched its Shenzhen-Sydney service in January 2016, Shenzhen has gone from havin no long-haul routes. Under the nation's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), Shenzhen was tagged as an international aviation hub and its airport sees "Internationalism" as one of its development strategies in the next five years.

With the launch of four new services, Hainan Airlines could help the airport build itself as an international hub, as well as enforce its presence in Shenzhen.
