Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence is uninjured after a tense landing in a Boeing 737 at LaGuardia Airport in New York City Thursday night.

The chartered plane, arriving from Fort Dodge, Iowa, and carrying the Indiana governor and his press pool, landed on a wet runway and skidded to a halt on the overrun, according to news reports. It came to rest against a perimeter fence at the end of the runway, according to the FAA.

The airplane's wheels dug into the engineered materials arrestor system at the end of the runway designed to slow aircraft in the event of an overrun.

The incident shut down both of the airport’s runways while emergency crews responded to the scene. Traffic to Teterboro, a major business aviation airport nearby in New Jersey, was also stopped due to the incident.

"I’m just really grateful, really grateful for some quick action," Pence said Friday on Good Morning America. "Not only by the pilots but also by first responders who were literally, it seemed like they were on the scene at LaGuardia before the plane even came to a halt."

The NTSB is investigating the incident.
