ORLANDO, Fla. - Officials at Orlando International Airport said they are expecting 1.4 million people to walk through the doors during the 12-day Thanksgiving holiday period, an increase of 10 percent from 2015.

“We want them to be able to get through lines fast, securely, and we've got people to help them do that,” said Phil Brown, executive director Greater Orlando Authority.

The holiday traveler surge comes as construction on OIA terminals continues, which could add to already likely delays.

Airport officials are installing 700 55-inch flat-screen monitors, a project that they hope will be complete within the next two years.

To help alleviate wait times for holiday travelers, OIA has installed state-of-the-art sensors at security checkpoints to monitor and report passenger wait times.

“There are kiosks out there available for those folks that don't need to see a ticket agent, and we've got people out front guiding them through,” said Brown.

Airport ambassadors in gold vests will be available to help fliers who have questions, and OIA’s mobile app has been updated to include interior maps of the airport.

“Surprisingly, the line isn't long,” said passenger Diandra Bain.

Visitors took advantage of the quick check-in and short ticket counter lines at OIA Tuesday, but they know it won't be long before that changes.

“It is the holidays. I know things are going to get a little bit busier,” said traveler Michelle Snyder.

Snyder said she appreciated the steps that OIA has taken to keep fliers well-informed.

“As long as there is more information, I think that is going to be a better thing,” she said. “I am really big into communication. If you can communicate, then you are able to help people, and the more you help people, the more everybody is happy.”
