Penny Hamilton sent in these photos, with a quick story: “Charlie McConathy of Granby, Colorado, visited Granby/Grand County Airport-Emily Warner Field (GNB) in the fall of 2015 as part of its annual pre-school community aviation education event called ‘Touch An Airplane and Meet A Pilot.’ This event is also supported by members of the EAA Chapter 1267.

As a follow-up to the visit, the children created a thank you note for the Grand County Historical Association Emily Warner Field Aviation Museum volunteers, who organized and hosted the free event.

In less than a year, Charlie drug his grandparents back to his airport to see his “airplane art,” with his name of it. The airplanes were made of a tongue blade for the wings and a wooden clothes pin for the fuselage and lots and lots of glitter. Plus, Charlie wanted his younger brother to “learn to fly,” too.

Jack McConathy was able to “fly” on the donated Colorado Fantasy of Flight Foundation flight simulator with the help of retired United Airlines Captain Jim Hoyhta.

Each child earns future pilots wings and a activity book to take with them, after participating in the Grand County Historical Association Emily Warner Field Aviation Museum community aviation programs.
