Wednesday is one of the busiest days of the year for air travel, but passengers had few problems getting to their destinations this year.

only sporadic delays affected U.S. airports, with no major problems at any of the USA’s biggest hubs. Flight-tracking service FlightAware counted just 42 cancellations as of 7 p.m. ET. Delays were more numerous -- about 1,350 as of the same time -- though that figure also was relatively modest for a nationwide count.

That all comes during what’s expected to be a record Thanksgiving for air travel. Airline trade group Airlines for America expects more than 27 million passengers — a record for the holiday — to fly on U.S. airlines worldwide between Nov. 18 and Nov. 29.

But fliers saw only sporadic and relatively minor problems at U.S. airports on Wednesday.

Thunderstorms briefly delayed some morning flights at Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport while an overnight power outage created some long morning lines at Louisville. Both issues were short-lived.

Off-and-on snow and visibility delays at Minneapolis/St. Paul – a hub for Delta Air Lines during the day – were reported. Washington’s Reagan National Airport, Los Angeles and New York LaGuardia each had occasional back-ups because of the heavy holiday volume of flights. Low clouds created a few minor delays at Chicago O'Hare while persistent winds delayed some flights at Newark Liberty -- a hub for United.
