Tips:Lightspeed Aviation has updated the Zulu headset with new ear seals, cables, and other tweaks that aim to increase comfort and durability.

The Portland, Oregon, firm announced the Zulu 3 active noise reduction headset Feb. 7, taking aim at the competition with a sales pitch based on comfort, performance, durability, and a “Trade Up” offer that could reduce the Zulu 3’s $850 purchase price by up to $350 for those trading in selec models.

The Zulu 3 features new ear seals contoured to hug the curve of the jaw and create a more natural fit, with more surface area and more space inside the ear cup than competitors' models. The Zulu 3 also has been fitted with the Kevlar-reinforced cables that are standard on the Lightspeed PFX and Tango models, and an optional, taller head pad also is available to help customers achieve the perfect fit. The Zulu 3 is made almost entirely fro magnesium and stainless steel.

"We've taken an iconic product that is trusted by a large cross section of pilots around the world and made it even better," said Teresa De Mers, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Lightspeed Aviation, in a news release. "Zulu 3 is the most comfortable, most durable headset Lightspeed has ever made."

The Zulu 3 headset is backed by a seven-year warranty.
