Bell Helicopter and Tru Simulation + Training’s Bell Helicopter Training Academy in Valencia, Spain, has hosted its grand opening, Bell said. Home to a Bell 429 full-flight simulator, this the first training center outside the U.S. for both Bell and Tru.

“As you can see, we have a lot to celebrate,” read the speech given by Ian Walsh, president and CEO of Tru, at the event. “As an officer and naval aviator flying [Bell] Cobra attack helicopters in the U.S. Marine Corps, I know first-hand the challenges rotorcraft pilots face. I’m proud of the innovation that the Bell 429 full-flight simulator brings to pilots.”

The simulator, built on Tru’s Odyssey H platform, features a 10-projector, 41-megapixel out-the-window visual system developed by Tru and RSI. An 11th projector provides extended field of view specifically for the chin window. The simulator can be reconfigured for other helicopters with its roll-on/roll-off capability.

The Bell 429 was designed for missions including corporate transport, offshore transport, emergency medical transport and law enforcement. It features options for rear clamshell cabin doors and Bell’s BasiX-Pro integrated avionics system. With the ability to carry up to seven passengers, it has an internal max gross weight of 7,000 pounds. The helicopter has 2,535 pounds of useful load and cargo hook capacity of 3,000 pounds.
