The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) is set to host discussion about the oil and gas market May 23, and Russia’s military May 24. Both are to be held at CSIS headquarters in Washington, D.C., and both will be available for live streaming on the CSIS website.

“Balance for Oil, Imbalance for LNG?” features a presentation from Dr. Fereidun Fesharaki, founder and chairman of Facts Global Energy. The company is a leading fundamental oil and gas/liquefied national gas (LNG) market research, analytics and consultation firm. Fasharaki is also a senior associate (non-resident) for CSIS’s Energy and National Security Program.

Alongside CSIS’s James R. Shclesigner, chair for energy and geopolitics, the discussion would cover how the oil and gas market could reach a balance this year or next, but CSIS said 50% U.S. LNG projects currently under construction have not been sold to end users. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP no later than May 22.

The May 23 event will discuss Russia’s efforts to modernize its military.

“based on what we know now,” CSIS said, “what can we predict about how Russia’s procurement plans will translate into new arms systems and defense technologies?”

Tomas Malmlöf, political scientist at the Swedish Defence Research Agency, and Michael Kofman, senior research scientist at CAN Corp., are to join CSIS expert Olga Oliker, senior advisor and director for the Russia and Eurasia program for the event.
