Tips:Why did the pilot fly to Manhattan in the rain? Helicopter crashed into the building

On Tuesday, investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are scrutinizing the wreckage of a helicopter onManhattan skyscrapers, trying to determine why the plane crashed on the roof the day before.

According to Reuters, pilot Tim McCormack It was the only passenger on the plane when he ran into the roof of 787 Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.

The police and other officials thought it was an accident, but they have not explained why McCormack flew over one of the most densely populated urban areas in the United States on Monday afternoon with heavy rain and low clouds.

The crash event evoked memories of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and renewed calls for tightening airspace restrictions in New York City. Representative Carolyn Maloney, who represents parts of Manhattan, said she hopes to ban all "non-essential" flights.

McCormack is an experienced pilot, according to airport director Paul Dudley, who took off from a helipad in Manhattan's eastern district to Linden Airport in New Jersey.

New York City Mayor Bill deBlasio told reporters on Monday that McCormack needed permission from the air traffic control tower at LaGuardia Airport in New York to fly over this area of Manhattan.

The New York and New Jersey Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, which manages the airport, did not respond to questions about the incident on Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration said on Monday that the controller "has not handled the aircraft," but it is unclear whether there is any communication between the helicopter and the air traffic authorities.

A spokesperson for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which is responsible for determining the cause of major traffic accidents, did not respond to questions about the progress of the investigation on Tuesday.

The crash site is less than a half mile (0.8 km) from the Trump Tower, wher President Trump Apartments is located. Since the election of Trump in 2016, the region has been subject to exceptionally strict flight restrictions.
