First, you must be at least 17 years of age to get a Sport Pilot License and you must pass both a knowledge test and a practical test. To get a Sport Pilot License, you must have at least 20 hours of flight time total and within those 20 hours you must include at least 15 hours of flight training from an authorized instructor and at least 5 hours of solo time. Those hours will be a compilation of 2 hours of cross-country flight training, 10 takeoffs and landings to a full stop, one solo cross-country flight of at least 75 nautical miles total distance, and at least 2 hours of flight training with an instructor in preparation for the practical test within the preceding 2 calendar months from the test. Aside from the flight training portion of your license, you must also complete a ground school portion that will prepare you for the FAA knowledge test at the end. once you get your Sport Pilot License, you will be allowed to fly at any time during the day when skies are clear and visibility is unobstructed with only one passenger and only in a light sport aircraft. This is a great license for drone/UAV pilots who are required to have a pilot’s license or for anyone interested in learning to fly for the simple pleasure of flying. The Light Sport License also does not require that you have a medical, so for those who are unable to get a medical, you can still fly with us.
