Christoph Mueller is to join Emirates as chief digital and innovation officer.

The former Malaysia Airlines chief executive will take up the newly created role at Emirates on 20 September, says the Gulf carrier.

Citing a "change in his personal circumstances", Mueller resigned from his post at MAS in April, after less than a year in the job.

He had previously served as chief executive of Irish carrier Aer Lingus.

Mueller's career has also spanned stints in senior roles at TUI, Sabena, Lufthansa, DHL and Daimler-Benz Aerospace.
