Australia's LifeFlight has added a new Leonardo AW139 to its fleet to support emergency medical services and search and rescue operations in Queensland. Milestone Aviation Group Ltd., a GE Capital Aviation Services leasing company, leased the helicopter, fully equipped for EMS capabilities, the company said Monday.
After purchasing its first two AW139s in 2014, this marks the company's first time in its history that it purchased new aircraft instead of a repurposed one. This, the company said, was due to government funding and support from the community. The rotorcraft can transport two patients on stretchers, two seated passengers and a four-member crew.
LifeFlight's fleet also includes five Bell Helicopter 412s, a Bell 230, two MBB/Kawasaki 117s, one Eurocopter AS350 Squirrel and two Learjets aircraft. As one of the continent’s largest aeromedical charities, the company provides helicopter rescue, air ambulance, training and retrieval medicine services.
Milestone Aviation Group has offices in Ireland and the U.S. Its inventory includes Sikorsky, Airbus, Leonardo and Bell rotorcraft, both new and used.
