On the fourth day after the earthquake, NHIndustries NH90s and other military air and sea vehicles are still hard at work. The relief effort in New Zealand has spread from densely populated tourist areas at the epicenter to remote areas of the country. Local news outlets report that New Zealand NHIndustries NH90s are set to fly to remote areas affected by the deadly earthquake.

Militaries of New Zealand, the U.S. and Japan will also be aiding in reconnaissance operations, using various air and sea vehicles. Starting yesterday, New Zealand police said the force, Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), and welfare staff flew to the isolated areas north of Kaikoura by a New Zealand Defense Force helicopter to assess the earthquake's impact. Poor weather held up some reconnaissance missions Thursday. However, plans are being put into place to resume when the forecasts clear up.

The U.S. Navy has offered two Sikorsky SH-60 Sea Hawks and Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion to the efforts. The Sea Hawks have engaged with the NH90s, while the Orion has engaged with New Zealand’s Orion fleet in surveillance efforts.
