Life Flight Network wants two more AW119Kxs, Leonardo said. The Aurora, Oregon-based air ambulance service is set to add to its current fleet of 19 Leonardo AW119Kxs with this purchase by the end of the year. Its fleet also includes the Leonardo AW109E.


More than 115 Leonardo rotorcraft are supporting emergency medical operations in North America. Life Flight serves Washington, Oregon, Montana and Idaho. In three years, the nonprofit and the manufacturer have reached 20,000 flight hours in the Leonardo AW119Kx fleet.


Life Flight was the launch customer for the glass cockpit-outfitted AW119Kx. The air ambulance helicopter is night vision goggle-capable with a medical interior. Other variations of the rotorcraft can be used in corporate transport, utility, firefighting, law enforcement and government operations.


With BJ Miles as director of Safety and Risk Management since 2013, Life Flight Network has received accreditation from the International Standard for Business Aviation Operations and Helicopter Assn. International’s Accreditation of Program Safety. The company said it is the first to receive this dual accreditation. Miles recently received the Jim Charlson Aviation Safety Award for 2016, given by the Assn. of Air Medical Services.
