Italian companies Leonardo and National Alpine Cliff and Cave Rescue Corps signed an agreement earlier this week for the development of rescue technologies, solutions and training, the manufacturer said. This three-year, renewable contract extends the relationship pre-existing between organizations.

The two companies aim to create a joint working group that would assess Leonardo aircraft’s technical specifications, mission equipment and cabin layout for efficiency and effectiveness. They also would be evaluating new rescue techniques, looking at how to integrate them with new products. Leonardo said it is looking to development a medical-rescue training center in the future, which the rescue organization could give guidance on and even support with instructors.

In Italy’s mountainous terrain and densely populated areas, Leonardo said that 2,800 helicopter mountain rescue missions were carried out in 2015. National Alpine Cliff and Cave Rescue Corps is a subsidiary of the Italian Alpine Club with more than 7,000 specialists all over the country.
