Frederick Community College in Maryland plans to host Maryland State Police helicopter pilot Kristine Yaroschuk as the featured speaker on Jan. 11’s Moving Mountains speaker series installation. The series aims to bring professionals to the school to encourage teens and young adults to “set the bar high in all areas of their lives,” according to the college.

Yaroschuk has been a civilian pilot with the Maryland State Police for the past nine years, the college said, and served as the only female pilot until last year. She is based at Trooper 3 in Frederick, responding to emergency situations. Along with emergency medical transportation, Taroschuk performs search and rescue, disaster assessment, evidence collecting and other missions. Before Maryland State Police, she was a pilot for Era Group Inc., supporting offshore operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

Maryland State Police operates 10 Leonardo AW139s from seven bases throughout the state, along with the King Air 350 and Cessna P210N. The helicopter features a Honeywell/GE advanced integrated avionics suite with flat panel glass cockpit instrumentation and an integrated health and usage monitoring system. It is IFR-certificated and can carry two passengers.
