A mock-up of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.’s Indian Multi Role Helicopter (IMRH) and Russian Helicopters’ Ka226T Kamov are on the floor as Aero India 2017 kicks off. The 11th installment of the show is taking place at Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bengaluru.

The HAL IMRH is a 24-seat aircraft, which reports say would be a replacement for the Indian armed forces’ fleet of Russian Helicopters Mil Mi-8s and Mi-17s. The new helicopter would conduct troop transport, medevac, combat search and rescue, offshore support, and VIP transport. HAL also plans to target foreign military sales.

Russian Helicopters’ display comprises the Ka-226T and Mi-38, the manufacturer said. The Russian Helicopters Ka-226T is to be produced in India for domestic distribution through an agreement with HAL. This light, multirole helicopter has a coaxial main rotor system and can carry up to six passengers or modules fitted with equipment. It can perform missions including medevac, search and rescue, and transport. The Russian Helicopters Mi-38 is also a multirole helicopter — the passenger version is part of the company’s display. It can be used in marine, tropical and cold climates, and features auto pilot. Russian Helicopters also has planned a presentation of its light, multirole Ansat. It is designed with two variants: one with fly-by-wire and the other with the traditional control system. It has manual and automatic piloting modes and can seat up to eight passengers.
