Airbus Helicopters wants to know if offshore workers would feel comfortable flying in a Super Puma after the April 2016 fatal crash in Norway. The company has released a survey, asking for feedback concerning offshore helicopters in general and the H225 specifically.

“Noting the new safety improvements to the H225, how comfortable would you be flying on the H225 now?” question 7 out of 8 asks. Previous questions ask about the survey taker’s preferences in terms of features in offshore helicopters, as well as safety preferences in offshore helicopters in general.

The Accident Investigation Board Norway (AIBN) published a preliminary report April 2017. The report pointed to a fatigue fracture in the main rotor gearbox as the cause of the crash. However, it was unknown what caused the fracture. Focus is being put on design and subsequent certification. The AIBN said the fatigue fracture was unlike anything expected during the design and certification process and happened in a way that was unlikely to be found during maintenance.

The AIBN was not able to say when the full investigation would be completed
