On July 15, 2021, the dream of flying to the sky of 4.47 million people of all ethnic groups in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province has finally come true. The Maitreya Dongfeng Airport (Mitreya General Airport) in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, named after “Dongfeng”, has completed more than 9 months of intensive construction since the start of construction in April 2020, and completed the road engineering and flight at the end of December of that year. District ancillary engineering, visual navigation aid lighting engineering, flight area power supply and lighting engineering, air traffic control engineering, aviation control complex building engineering, comprehensive garage engineering, energy center engineering, fuel supply engineering and other supporting engineering construction tasks. With the completion of the school flight on May 5 this year and the completion of the test flight on June 11 this year, the airport was officially opened to air navigation.
At 11 o'clock in the morning, the opening ceremony of Maitreya Dongfeng Airport officially began. Accompanied by the beat of the music, 120 young men and women dressed in national costumes danced the Maitreya traditional dance "Axi Jumping to the Moon" to warmly welcome guests from sailing companies from all over the country. The navigation ceremony was presided over by Li Chengwu, member of the Standing Committee of the Honghe Prefecture Party Committee and Executive Deputy Governor.

Maitreya Dongfeng Airport is one of the first batch of 20 first-class general-purpose airports planned and constructed during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period in Yunnan Province. It is the third general-purpose airport built in Yunnan Province and the first in Honghe Prefecture. After five years of hard work and five years of passion, Maitreya Dongfeng Airport has gradually become a reality for the people of all ethnic groups in Honghe, from project establishment, site selection, construction to test flight, acceptance, and sailing.
