Tips:Hong Kong Airport opens the world's first driverless patrol car

As the Hong Kong International Airport is expanding and the restricted area of the airport will be expanded, the Airport Authority has recently applied unmanned driving technology to patrol vehicles to assist in daily patrols at the border of the restricted area of the airport.

The unmanned patrol car travels on a 1.5-kilometer section of South Runway Road at a speed of 10 km/h for 24 hours to increase the frequency of patrols on this section and reduce the pressure on security. It can also continue to carry out related work in inclement weather.

The car is modified from an electric car and can travel 200 kilometers after being fully charged. A car is equipped with 3 radars, 8 lenses and a global positioning system, which can automatically walk and turn around according to the set route, and can also automatically detect obstacles within 10 meters of the body and activate the brakes.

When the vehicle is patrolling, it can automatically detect whether someone enters the warning range through image analysis technology. When a person is detected within 3 meters of the boundary fence, the car will issue a voice warning to warn him to leave immediately. At the same time, the security guards on duty will also receive warnings and use real-time images to monitor the location and specific conditions of the car. If necessary, they can immediately send someone to the scene to deal with it. In addition, when the vehicle is patrolling, it can also use image analysis technology to automatically detect whether the barbed wire on the fence is abnormal. If there is any abnormality, a maintenance notice will be issued.

There are currently 2 unmanned patrol vehicles at Hong Kong Airport, and the number will be increased to 4 in the future, and the patrol range will be increased to the North Ring Road in the restricted area.
