Australia has formally requested 40 UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters from the United States to replac the MRH-90 helicopters currently in service, Defence Minister Peter Dutton said on December 10. This is the second time this year that the Australian military has "replaced Europe with The American". Earlier this year, the Australian military announced that it would replac its current Tiger attack helicopters with THE AH-64E.
At this point, the nH-90 and tiger, two European "star" models, have come to the end of Australian military service. The reasons given by the Australian army are quite consistent.
# Defeated "Black Hawk" in the bid, named after the Australian Viper
In 2004, the Australian military selected NH-90 through competitive bidding, and Sikorsky UH-60M was the loser.
At that time, the Australian military stated that it would purchase 46 NH-90s to replac its old Sikorsky S-70A Black Hawk, Bell UH-1H and Westland Aquaman.
Four of the 46 NH-90s were manufactured in Europe, and the remaining 42 were manufactured in Australia by the Australian Aerospace Corporation (a subsidiary of Airbus Helicopters) in Brisbane. The model was designated MRH-90— —MRH means Multi Role Helicopter, nicknamed "Taipan", which is a unique Australian poisonous snake.
