Officials in a New Hampshire city are considering a proposed ban on flying drones over city-owned cemeteries to ensure privacy.
The Claremont Eagle-Times reports that, if the City Council approves the cemetery ordinance change on Oct. 12, all private drone flights over four municipally-owned cemeteries in Claremont would be banned.
Officials say privately-owned cemeteries are exempt from this measure.
Assistant Mayor Victor Bergeron, head of the cemetery rules subcommittee, cited a recent complaint from a resident who said a private service had been interrupted by a noisy drone hovering nearby.
There are currently no local ordinances that restrict the use of the unmanned aircraft.
State law restricts the flight altitude of "non-government" drones to 400 feet and prohibits drones from conducting surveillance without consent.
