A 1962 Lockheed JetStar once owned by rock singer Elvis Presley is scheduled to be auctioned to the highest bidder on Saturday. The aircraft, owned by an unidentified “private collector,” is missing its four engines and has been sitting for more than 30 years on a ramp at the famous aircraft boneyard in Roswell, New Mexico. The interior and exterior have never been repainted or restored.
The upcoming event is the second time that the aircraft has been placed on auction. In December 2008, auctioneer Kruse International included the airplane at the annual Las Vegas Collector Car Auction. But bidding failed to reach reserves. At that time, Kruse was expecting the jet to fetch between $700,000 and $2 million.

Liveauctioneers and GSW Auctions, who are handling the upcoming auction, now estimate the airplane’s value at $2 million to $3.5 million, and have set no reserves.

The aircraft’s passenger compartment was designed by Presley. It features bright red velvet seats, a red shag rug and gold-plated fixtures. In the cockpit, many instruments are missing and the pilot seats are torn.
