Air ambulance operator Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) experienced its busiest month in Manitoba, Canada, Winnipeg Free Press reported. During the month of July, STARS reportedly conducted 95 missions across the province — 24 more than the previous monthly high in July 2015.
The report said STARS experienced an uptick in missions after integrating with the health authority and other service providers, which followed the opening of a new helipad in 2016. Winnipeg Free Press said that STARS Local base Director Grant Therrien said he expects the rescue society to make more than 700 emergency responses this year. Over the last two years, STARS has reportedly averaged some 595 responses.
According to the report, STARS became operational in Manitoba in 2011. At that point, the work was reportedly started on a temporary basis.
