Got a drone? Take it racing. Flying drones at breakneck speeds through the countryside is the coolest sport of the year.

In Brighton last month 30 pilots took part in a drone racing competition, with three courses testing out freestyle skills and racing at speed. Competitors wore virtual-reality style glasses to view a real-time feed of wher their drone was flying, providing a first-person view as it raced around the course.

Hosted at a farm that's been converted into a drone race course, pilots had to fly their drones through buildings and out over sprawling countryside -- which led to some spectacular crashes.

Races such as this give drone pilots the chance to test out their skills and race competitively in a safe environment, away from aircraft, people and other dangers.

The race was organised by drone firm Team-Miniairshow at the home of Sussex Drone Club, with similar events starting to appear across the UK.

This story originally stated the event was organised by First Person View. It was sponsored by First Person View and organised by Team-Miniairshow.
