As of Monday, the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology has moderate and minor flood warnings out for six different rivers in Tasmania due to heavy rains. The day before, two rivers flooded requiring helicopter rescues, Tasmanian Police said. The South Esk River currently has a moderate flood warning issued, and the Saint Pauls River has no flood warnings.
Australia's Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service lifted to safety a 58-year-old man who was stranded after camping by the banks of the South Esk River. The service also rescued a 79-year-old man whose car was washed off the road while crossing the Saint Pauls River. Neither man sustained injuries.
The helicopter rescue organization currently operates a fleet of two Bell Helicopter 412SPs and two MBB (now Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH)/Kawasaki BK117s.
