Vertiport Chicago is set to host its first helicopter show, it said. Sponsored by Chicago-based Jet Support Services Inc. (JSSI), the show is to feature helicopter rides and a static display with pilots on hand to answer questions.

“JSSI is thrilled to partner with Vertiport Chicago to sponsor the first Chicago Helicopter Show,” said Ray Weiser, senior director of helicopter services at JSSI. “The helicopter industry is a growth market opportunity for JSSI, and we are pleased to help spur the awareness and expansion of helicopter travel in the Chicagoland area.”

Vertiport Chicago opened in April 2015. Later that year, the vertiport’s president, Mike Conklin, told R&WI the facility was, in part, motivated by his desire to support EMS operations. When his wife suffered a horrific waterskiing accident, she was transported from a remote mountain lake in southwest Virginia to a medical facility in Roanoke. The grounds of Vertiport Chicago are leased from the Illinois Medical District, a partnership of the city, Cook County and Illinois that includes four hospitals. Helicopters serving them can use Conklin’s facility free of charge.

Among the aircraft that will be on display during the Aug. 10 veritport event is a Eurocopter AS365N2. It is operated by the University of Chicago for emergency medical missions, including the transfer of patients and organs.

Vertiport Chicago offers services as a fixed-base operator, tour company, private charter operator and excutive charter operator.

JSSI services rotorcraft manufactured by Airbus, Bell Helicopter, Leonardo, MD Helicopters Inc., Sikorsky, Enstrom and Robinson Helicopter Co.
